Tamilnadu Mutton Curry
Simple, yet delicious, Tamilnadu Mutton Curry is just easy to cook. This is my go-to recipe when I want to cook a non-vegetarian meal for my family. Mutton Curry is delicious served with plain rice or chappathi, a salad and Raita.

Yield: Serve 4-5 people with 1kg of mutton
Ingredients
- mutton - 1 kg
- water - as required
- salt to taste
For grinding
- oil - 2 tsp
- cashews - 10 to 15
- black pepper - 1/2 tsp
- cinnamon - few
- cloves - few
- cardamom - 3
- fennel seed - 1 tsp
- cumin seed - 1 tsp
- garlic - 10 flakes
- small onion - 1 cup
- kashmiri chilli - 5 / 6
- curry leaves - few
- greated coconut - 1 cup
- coriander powder - 2 tsp
- ginger garlic paste - 1 tsp
- mint leaves - few (optional)
- tomotto - 1/2
For tempering
- oil - as required
- Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
- curryleaves
- garlic
- nutmeg
- tomatto
- onion
- corainder leaves
Method
- Heat 2tsp of oil in a heavy bottomed pan, when the oil is hot, add cashews,black pepper,cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, fennel seed and cumin seed and saute it for 2mins.
- add garlic, small onion, red chilli, curry leaves and saute it for another 2 more min
- continue roasting and then add grated coconut, coriander powder and ginger garlic paste.
- keep sauting for few more min, now add mint leaves it gives nice aroma for r curry and finally add half tomotto in the mixture .
- transfer the ingredients into the mixi jar and grind till it become a fine paste.
- pour 2 tsp of olive oil into the pressure cooker and when its hot put ingredients listed under 'For tempering'.
- Add the washed mutton pieces and stir till mutton turns slightly pale on the outside - approximately 3 minutes.
- now add grinded paste and mix well.
- stir to fully coat the mutton pieces with the masala and season with salt to taste.
- close the prseure cooker and when the steam starts coming out, put the cooker weight.
- cook until u get 4 to 5 whistles.
- mutton curry is ready now v can transfer into the bowl and garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve warm with hot Chapatis, Naans or plain boiled rice.
Tip:
Use a pressure cooker to cook Mutton Curry and it will be done in half the time it takes to cook in an open pot!
Note:
This is a spicy mutton preparation, so adjust the quantity of kashmiri chili according to your taste.
